The end of the world is near, and John Cusack makes it his mission to lead the survivors. [Rated PG-13]

Roland Emmerich's 2012 provides plenty of visual thrills, but lacks a strong enough script to support its massive scope and inflated length.

Over the top scenes of destruction aside, "2012" is generally unimaginative in every way, from conception to execution. It's not particularly bad, but never has the end of the world seemed so quaint.

Emmerich claims that I2012I is his final disaster movie, unless IIndependence Day 2I ever gets off the ground, and the movie is nothing if not an indulgent curtain call for the man who figured out how much we like watching cinematic portrayals of our own demise.
