While it isn't terribly original, and it seems to have a political agenda that may rankle some viewers, Astro Boy boasts enough visual thrills to please its target demographic.

iAstro Boyi begins with animation thats clearly an homage to the old Disney shorts we used to watch as kids. The informational kind. The ones that would tell us how cars worked and about the amazing future we had ahead of us. While its a clever tool that, through exposition, helps to inform us enough to enter the story thats about to be told, its done at only a fraction of the quality of those Disney shorts. And that turns out to be the case for all of iAstro Boyi. The movie is a retread of many great childrens stories, jokes, and plot devices, but its not a quality retread. Instead, its executed lazily and in many cases, unusually. Its like a robot that just doesnt work that well, even though its made up of pieces from all of the most expensive, fancy robots on the market.

Something as creative and influential as "Astro Boy" probably deserves better than just a quick trip down CGI-Kids-Film lane. That's all you're going to get, though.
