Despite the change in director and the addition of some stronger actors, "New Moon" isn't just more of the same; at times, it's even more grueling than the first movie. The sporadic action and decent FX do make up for it, but only barely.

[For early Metascore updates, follow us at https://twitter.com/metacritic] Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Jacob Black (Taylor Launter) can't deny their animal attraction in the second installment of the Twilight saga. [Not Rated PG-13]

The Twilight Saga's second installment may satisfy hardcore fans of the series, but outsiders are likely to be turned off by its slow pace, relentlessly downcast tone, and excessive length.

Fans will like it, and their appetites for the next one will probably be whet, but every one else will probably spend a lot of time looking at their watches.

INew MoonI avoids slipping into self-parody by being a little less serious as well. Its impossible to have a truly light touch with the material-- Stephenie Meyers writing prevents that entirely-- but Weitzs efforts result in a movie thats a little less insular and self-involved, though in the end, still probably one only the true fans could love.
