This is my youngest child pitching a few years ago.....

Once again, against my better judgement, I am bringing myself out of retirement for a fun game of ball, which I will probably take far too seriously.....

Once every year, I drag my rapidly aging body off the golf course, and head for a different patch of green

That's what I will be doing this sunday, as I take part in an exhibition game involving local media icons  ( OK, I am the only icon, the rest are mere pawns) against members of the Kitchener Rangers.
It's a fun game, and I enjoy playing the rangers despite the fact I hate them because they are young and fit and strong.   I am none of those things.

This game is a prelude to some exhibition games involving Canada's Women's Olympic fastball team, which is tuning up for Beijing.   Fastball is a game close to my heart.   Two of my girls played it on a rep basis in Waterloo.   One of them travelled through the US with a team from Markham, and was a pretty hot prospect until she was injured at 17.   She still plays though, and I love the game.

We held our own last year in this game, giving up four runs in the final inning to fall 14-13.   On a personal level, it was good for me.  Three hits, 5 runs driven in...a rather spectacular fall into the centerfield fence, and some muscles which reminded me they had not been used for quite a long time.

There are some decent ballplayers in our bunch, and some people, who certainly give an effort.   However, I am thinking of sneaking in one or two former players of mine to help out.

Anyway, the game is 4 pm at Peter Hallman Ballyards in Kitchener.   Come on out and say hi.
