What's your strategy?

Ok, so I only have one vote. On the upside, so does everyone….including those who we’ll be voting for. On the downside, my “perfect world” strategy would like a couple of cracks at it.

I suppose no system can be perfect. It’s long been said that people would vote for this candidate if they belonged to this party. As a result, we sometimes have to vote for the party, not the person. Whether the ‘bad fit’ is a local candidate or a national leader.

I was musing the other day about another way of thinking. Should I vote with what my gut tells me or should I try a “block”? That is to say, if I’m in a riding that is a particular stronghold for one party and my candidate is an unlikely pick to win, should I vote for another popular choice in the hopes that he or she might unseat the incumbent candidate?

I’m torn. Maybe that’s part of the problem inherent in our system. Whether to vote from the heart or strategically? No doubt, there are those who vote both ways, playing the system differently. That can do nothing but cloud the real sentiment of the populace.

It would be so much easier if I just had a couple of votes. Or it maybe a moot point if more people exercised their right to vote. Half of us don’t even vote……which is an abdication of our responsibility to a government “of and for the people”.

I don’t “do” politics. I try to go for the person behind the mask. And I only have one vote. But at least I use it!
