Day 3 Grey Cup recap.

DAY 3: At the Stampeders Luncheon, and Grey Cup Village

Day 3 was fun filled day as I was all over the city just like Stampeders linebacker, Mike Labinjo sacking Buck Pierce in last week’s West final. Even though I missed out on a well co-ordinated Alouettes breakfast on Thursday morning, in the afternoon, the Stampeders went all out as veteran leaders, Jeremaine Copeland, and Wes Lysack did a great job introducing the entire team roster to the media with cute nicknames for each player.

After the player introductions, the assembled media was given the freedom to roam around the room to interview the players as they were munching on some sandwiches, and cake after their Thursday practice at the Olympic Stadium. I can say this with great pride the players that I interviewed, Mike Labinjo, Nik Lewis, Ken-Yon Rambo, and Copeland were class acts. They had a great time interacting with the media members, and there were laughs all around room.

I finally had the opportunity to visit the Grey Cup Village. If I had followed the schedule  that was e-mailed to all media members, instead of showing up at 9:30am on Wednesday morning, I could been there for the noon hour grand opening with such dignitaries as Montreal mayor, Gerald Tremblay, and Alouettes president, Larry Smith cutting the ribbon. I must say, the village is well organized, with a lot of events to do such as playing football on the mini-field, having a drink at one of their tents, and having fun!

Finally, I am starting to see the true colours of the CFL. Fans from across Canada are showing up in their team jerseys, hats, and painting their face in team colours. What makes these gatherings unique, the fans that are apart of this fraternity, continue to show up year after year at these Grey Cup sites to celebrate Canada’s game.
