Southland residents reacted with anger and sorrow Thursday to the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India's financial capital, where 125 people have been killed and more than 300 injured. Natives of India now living in the south Los Angeles community of Artesia, which is known as "Little India," watched helplessly as the drama unfolded live on cable news outlets. Vankatesh Koka, 39, who manages the Little Indian Village shopping center, told The Times that after hearing about the attacks, he tried calling friends in Mumbai a few times before finally getting through and making sure they were OK. "It's crazy," he said. "I guess India is growing and they're trying to stop it from happening. By doing something like this, foreigners won't go to the country."
