What happened to the old days when you could tell the difference between people attending
the house of God for church service from those going for a brisk walk in the park? Are we becoming too causal with our church attire? Does it matter? Please take a moment to share with us your thoughts for an upcoming discussion on Sunday Afternoon Praise.
Remember the days when the sisters of the church would come in their best hats and fine dresses. Once upon a time they would not think their outfit complete unless they had their gloves to match. As you saw them walk down the street you could easily identify they were going to the Lord's house for worship. The men would dress in their best suits and they always wore a tie. Today it seems not as easy to identify the mall shoppers from the worshipers.
Do you think people are becomming to concerned about the way others dress in church? Does it matter how you present yourself before the Lord? Should there be a standard of dress for those professing to be christians?
Are we becoming to casual in our attire. Should there be a difference in our appearance as we enter into the house of the Lord to worship our God and Creator, or is it alright to attend church as though you are going for a casual stroll inside the mall. Does it make a difference?
What Do You Think?

Each person has a right to be an individual. But when you come into the Lord's house, you should be presentable. There are lines that are crossed in the wardrobe area. Looking like your are ready to go clubbing, is not the way to go. I think that dressing in a "business", "semi-casual" is fine, but cleavage and tight clothes along with inappropriate art should be refrained from.

We know God looks at our hearts and not our clothes. To based entrance in the house of God upon our clothing is to say the stuggling family who want to find out about God but only have very little clothing which are not what WE feel are not appropriate should not attend church, or what about the gang member who walks by and feels something tugging at his heart and wants to enter,or the bum off the street who feels the need to hear God's word at that moment or the pregnant teen with a tight
shirt and jeans on? Do we tell them no you don't look right. Or as christians do we say come as you are,God wants your heart not your clothing?

Sometimes Christians are too casual in their dress as they worship. The Bible presents an excellent guide or deciding what attire is appropriate for church. In some instances, individuals do come to church in clothing not proper for corporate worship. 1 Timothy 2:9 admonishes us to dress " . . . modestly, with decency and propriety . . ." The word modest means "reserved, not extreme or excessive, moderate, and decent." During biblical times, this would have meant wearing a cloak, tunic, sandals, and a turban to church. Obviously standards have changed since then and do differ from era to era and church to church. In my opinion, the heart of the matter is in remembering why we attend church----to worship God. So in our worshiping, we should be helping to create an environment in which we can praise God and also encourage praise in others. This means avoiding anything that will distract from the worship experience, or distract others from worshiping. That skin tight, short skirt or pants and that low cut see through top can be distracting to anyone of any gender despite the best intentions to stay focused on the worship experience. As well as the individual coming in scruffy, smelly, clothing. Often disputes over church attire hinge on personal preferences. We shouldn't get caught up in that. There's nothing wrong with being fashionable or stylish as long as we remain modest in style and expense. We are told to "come as we are." I thank God that he takes us where we are spiritually (and the issue of dress is a spiritual thing). We are told that "whether we eat, or drink, or whatsoever we do, do it all to the glory of God. How you dress is a reflection of your spiritual relationship with Christ, and such spiritual things are spiritually discerned. That's why God takes us at where we are spiritually and financially too. God expects our best, he expects us to reflect that we are "chosen" and "called out." But your best may not be my best. The college student struggling to make ends meet and the corporate worker have differing dress bests. I know that God reads the content of our hearts and knows what our best is and whether we are really striving to meet it and his requirements.

well sometimes yes and sometimes no because sometimes they try to attract a lot of attention and they try to look different than all the other people and no because they sometimes just dress like they normally dress and that's ok.

Some of the teenagers at my church wear jeans because that is all they have. Jesus wants us to come as we are. As long as you came to church to worship God.

i think that although the bible says come as you are there is a limit you should show respect to the Lord but still be comfortable.

Really people shouldn't care how other people dress as long as they are there for the lord
10. Kevin C ( 3 months ago )
no cause the lord excepts every one as they are it is just the way people want to dress

i feel that there should not be a casual dress to go to church because God said come as you are but be appropriate in which you wear but it really doesn't matter because you are there to worship God

God said come as you are but i think as long u dress appropriate for you to come in the house of the Lord u can come as you are. If you are inappropriate you shouldn't come in the house of the Lord like that because that is disrespecting God and his church hold and the church family.

well...Jesus said come as you are...i do think some people come to church to casual but as long as you want to worship God then there shouldn't be a problem. I think you should still try your best to not look like your going to the mall or the movies, at least try to make it look respectful

Yes, because some people in church are too concerned about how other people are dressed and whats going on in peoples houses when the don't know anything. I say if you can dress your best for the Lord than dress your best and if not then come as yourself and God will accept you in his house, but the important thing is that you be your best for God.I think we are to a certain extent dressing too casual. Of course there should be a difference in our appearance when we enter into the house of the Lord, but it must be in a respectful way that people should be able to tell that you are a there to worship God .And it makes a huge difference.

i think that there is nothing wrong with wearing dress clothing to church because it shows how much you are listening in church and you should always dress your best for god

God is a God of order. If you have some clothes that are dressy, wear them because God has done everything you have so the least you can do is dress up nice. If you don t have dressy clothes wear what you have. God will still accept you as his own child.

We feel that a great deal of respect is due when worshiping our lord and savior and to him we owe our best whether it is in action or dress. For some of us that would mean most expensive attire made and for others it would be jeans and a shirt as long as it was clean and it was the best we could afford. John and Rhonda Wagner

I feel that as long as you are modest in your attire it shouldn't matter what you wear. Remember that Christ is looking at our hearts...
